Thanks to Jo Hynes for sharing her super G. plicatus hybrid which is of great significance to those who like their snowdrops with well, hints of colour. The name itself refers to the habitually rather random way in which the outer segments have a slight unpredictable twist in either direction. On full-sized plants there are separate apical and basal markings repeating the similar pattern on the inner segments. Viewed alone the flowers seem to show the combination in white and green of other inverse poculiforms. Alongside other cultivars, however, the eye detects something odd and when the flowers are up-turned where the area of the non-white is at its most intense on the inner face of the inner segments, the viewer is usually forced to admit that the colour is in fact pale pink. Early flowering, at around the same time as G. elwesii ‘Godfrey Owen’.
