At one Margaret Owen's snowdrop lunches at 'The Patch' in Shropshire, several of us noticed an unusual G. elwesii stood out from the, by then, substantial collection there. Not a bells and whistles novelty but a straightforward snowdrop that charmed several of there for the combination of stiffly splayed leaves (U-shaped in cross section) and its well-shaped flowers. These showed a significant difference in the shade of the deep green inner segment marking with the olive green ovary. The origin given at the time was a naturalised colony at Wrentnall in 2010 although I came to question this when I saw an identical plant in another Shropshire collection which had come from Philip Ballard. Either way, a super snowdrop that I'm pleased to grow.
